xim - rebuild

After some investigation I've found that current glu framework has problems that can't be easily fixed without recreating the whole stuff.

Therefore I started from scratch using brand new .NET WPF v 4.0 (beta) with lot of improvements and performance optimizations.

There are already some results:

- 1/3 less memory requirements

- much faster

- no UI hangs

If you have Windows7 (only OS supported yet) and .NET 4.0 beta installed, you can ask me for an early test binaries.

For some reason, the x64 build was broken. Let me know if it works again.

Another fix is related to the servers that use ping functionality to determine if the client is alive. In the previous build, there was no answer to the ping request, so the client was disconnected after specific idle time.

xeus2 just reached the first milesone - MUC. It should be now able to handle services, commands and multi-user chats. There are several UI enhancements like multi-tab (which is not finished yet).

Most of the clients allow to choose between seaparate chat windows and tabbed layout. xeus2 introduces new concept where you can choose from threekinds of layout:

Tabbed layout

Multi-tabbed layout

It basically allows (unlike the normal tab contel) to see a content of more than one tab at once separated by splitters. It saves a number of open windows and allows to watch more chat simultaneously.

Hello,

here comes the new test version http://xeus-messenger2.googlecode.com/files/xeus2-test6.zip . I did some changes in MUC and I hope I've fixed the problem with xeus start problems.

Now it can send message by ctrl+Enter, it supports Tab key for user nicknames quick access, displays some useful information and more.

I was really surprised with the performance lack of xeus on Windows Vista. Fortunately I've found the reason. If there is a custom border decoration, Windows Vista has really big problem to render the window content. If you have Windows Vista and experience performance problems, I will send you xeus with the original border decoration.

xeus-2 will have completely new design. The reason is that I'd like to keep original window captions/frames to enable HW acceleration on Windows XP. The following picture demonstrates Service Explorer displaying categories of jabber services. There is also a draft of overall design which should go to a "softer" one.

Hello everybody. Since the xeus 1.0 is now finished and it has pretty good reviews, I decided to continue with the development.
The first version has very limited functionality so I will focus on implementing of all from xmmp protocol (XEP). Yes, it is a lot of work, but people deserve a good Jabber client for Windows.

Since the last version, I've improved the performance and visual representation of xeus. Hardware acceleration works only on Windows Vista, but performance on Windows XP is acceptable.
There are currently two builds - for x86 and x64 platforms.

This version is focused on performance. I did several steps to enable HW acceleration on XP and fixed some bugs. I hope that performance is much better than before.

There is another button in the status bar which enables to open login dialog. This is more user friendly than right-click on status icon.

Windows XP - hardware acceleration

I was checking the performance of xeus and I've found that hardware acceleration is not supported on non-rectangular windows (which is the case). So i decided to set xeus windows to be rectangular which makes a little design glitch - on the other side, performance is better. On Windows Vista, it is fine. This will be released with the next version.

I've completely re-coded the chat window. It is now a document where you can easily search, scroll, zoom and copy. Copy to clipboard now supports RTF.
Another enhancement is that you can click on hyperlinks in text.

Xeus crashes on Windows Vista during startup. I don't know exactly, what's going on, but when I recompile the project under Vista, it works. I have to find out what's wrong.

I think the bag of features for version 1.0 is complete. Now I focus on fixing existing bugs.
I decided to provide yet another two enhancements: popup notifications and file transfer.
If you have any ideas, just put them here as a comment or send me an email.
if you find any bug, put it here.

You can receive the files and you can drag file to the contact.
The file transport does not seem to work correctly in all cases, so please write down if you have any problems.

There are other problems, but I think the overall usability is now good.

Contact item has a small icon which displays the type of transport (currently supported are msn, icq, tv and aim).

The first public version of xeus-messenger is available.
It is intended only for advanced users and it has only limited functionality.

Executable in section download.

xeus-messenger also requires .NET 3.0 Framework. You have to install it before you start xeus-messenger. For Windows Vista it is not necessary (.NET 3.0 is already part of it).

Following components are used and distributed together with xeus-messenger:
The communication is implemented by agsXMPP by AG Software.
Data are stored by SQLite for ADO.NET.
